Correctional Officer Applicants

The DeWitt County Sheriff’s Merit Commission is accepting applications for the position of Correctional Officer.  The application process has changed. 


Starting Salary:  $35,493 for Correctional Officer Trainee. $40,077 for previously certified Illinois Correctional Officers.

Benefits include vacation, holiday pay, sick leave, medical insurance, life insurance, and pension. *

 All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements ;

  • U.S. citizenship;
  • No felony convictions;
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent;
  • Valid driver's license;
  • Minimum of 21 years of age at time of application;

 Documents Required for Application Submission:

  • Copy of driver's license; proof of citizenship (birth certificate), high school diploma, or G.E.D. equivalent
  • If the applicant has military experience, a copy of Form DD214 is required.

2.    Return the application by 8 am  August 30th, 2017.  Applications may be dropped    off in person at the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office or sent by email to:

3.    Applicants must pass the National Correctional Officer Selection Test.    Applicants may take this written test at the Sheriff’s Office during any one of two sessions.   Session one is September 2nd at 9 am.  Session two is September 4th at 6 pm.  This written test will take approximately 2 hours.

4.    Applicants that pass the test will receive further instructions.



*Health insurance is partially paid by the employer.  Other benefits subject to the collective bargaining agreement and county policy.  ASK if you have questions.
