Sex Offender Sweep ends in Arrest

On Thursday, June 27, 2013, the DeWitt County Sheriff Office, Clinton Police Department, Illinois State Police (ISP) Zone 5 Investigations, Dewitt County Probation Office, and U.S.  Immigration and Customs Enforcement participated in a United States Marshals Service led operation entitled Operation Dewitt County Compliance 2013.Click here to read the results. A total of 40 registered sex offenders were targeted, resulting in 38 address verifications, 1 follow-up investigation, and 1 arrest.  The operation resulted in the arrest of registered sex offender Donald G. Brewer, 55, in Weldon.  He was arrested by Sheriff’s Deputies for violation of sex offender registration (failure to register a change of address), a Class 4 Felony.  The operation also resulted in the initiation of an investigation by the United States Marshall Service to locate  non-compliant sex offender Joshua S. Sympson, 33, under the Adam Walsh Act.  Investigators uncovered evidence that Sympson may have fled the State of Illinois.   Sympson’s last known address was in Clinton, IL.  Sympson is currently wanted on a failure to appear warrant in DeWitt County, in addition to charges pending for violation of the sex offender registration act.  Photographs of  Donald Brewer and Joshua Sympson are attached. Contact the Office of the DeWitt County Sheriff for further comment at 217-935-9507 during business hours. THE PUBLIC IS REMINDED THAT CRIMINAL DEFENDANTS ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL THE GOVERNMENT IS ABLE TO PROVE ITS CHARGES IN COURT BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT.
